Purpose: A crush washer is primarily used when installing a muzzle device (such as a flash hider, muzzle brake, or compensator) onto the barrel threads. Its main purpose is to allow proper timing/indexing of the device so it faces the correct direction, while deforming under torque to create a secure, tight lock that resists loosening from recoil.
It is typically a soft metal washer that is single-use and should be replaced if the muzzle device is ever removed.
