Description
Purpose: The bolt catch in an AR-15/AR-10 is a small but essential lever on the lower receiver that performs two primary functions; It automatically locks the bolt carrier group open after the last round is fired (last round bolt hold-open), alerting the shooter the magazine is empty and speeding up reloads. It also lets the user manually lock the bolt back for clearing jams, chamber inspections, cleaning, or safe storage. Releasing it chambers the next round.
