What is an FRT Trigger?

An FRT Trigger (Forced Reset Trigger) is a specialized semi-automatic trigger system, most commonly found in FRT-15 or similar variants for the AR-15 (AR15) platform, that uses the firearm’s recoil energy to mechanically force the trigger forward after each shot. This allows the shooter to maintain constant rearward finger pressure while achieving a significantly faster rate of fire than a standard semi-auto trigger — without converting the weapon to full-auto.

Popularized by brands like Hoffman Tactical, Partisan, Atrius, and Rarebreed; these drop in FRT triggers are fully legal in many states as they still require a separate trigger pull for every round. They are available in 3-position models, pistol variants for platforms like the Taurus TX229MM Pistols and various kits, making them popular for competition, recreational shooting, and home defense. Always check local laws, as regulations can vary.
