Purpose: An AR-15 vise block (often called a lower receiver vise block or magwell vise block) is a tool designed to securely hold the lower receiver of an AR-15 rifle in a bench vise, providing a stable platform for tasks like installing buffer tubes, torquing castle nuts, driving pins, cleaning, or general maintenance and assembly without damaging the receiver. Key features include fitting into the magazine well (magwell) for a secure grip—often with adjustable or pivoting tension wings/expanders for a rock-solid, non-marring hold—compatibility with mil-spec lowers (and sometimes AR-10 variants), and easy insertion/removal for quick setup in any standard bench vise.
