Partisan Disruptor Forced Reset Trigger: Information and Installation Guide

A Partisan Trigger (specifically the Disruptor FRT) is a commercial forced reset trigger (FRT Trigger, also called assisted reset or positive reset trigger) designed as a drop-in cassette for AR-15 pattern rifles.

It is manufactured by Partisan Triggers and is a self-contained unit (cassette) that includes the trigger shoe, sear, springs, and reset mechanism. It descends from designs like the TacCon 3MR and uses US Patent 9146067.

How It Works

  • Forced/Assisted Reset Mechanism: After each shot, the rifle’s recoiling bolt carrier group (BCG) and buffer system mechanically push the trigger forward to its reset position faster than a standard trigger spring alone would. This allows quicker follow-up shots in semi-automatic mode while still requiring a separate trigger pull (function) for each round — keeping it legal as a semi-automatic device under current federal interpretations.
  • 3 Position Safety/Selector:
    • Safe: Blocks the trigger.
    • Semi: Standard semi-automatic function (normal reset feel).
    • Enhanced Semi (Active/FRT mode): Enables the forced reset for significantly faster rates of fire.
  • Trigger Pull: Typically 3.75–4.1 lbs (single-stage feel). It uses durable materials like 17-4 stainless and 4140 chromoly on wear surfaces.
  • Requirements: Needs an M16-style (full-auto profile) BCG and a heavier buffer (H2 minimum, H3 recommended for carbine setups). The gun should be kept clean and well-lubricated.

It is marketed as easier to install than selector-based systems like the Super Safety because it is a complete drop-in cassette rather than modifying the existing trigger group.

How to Install It

The Disruptor is designed for tool-minimal, drop-in installation with no permanent modifications or gunsmithing in standard mil-spec AR-15 lowers.

Basic Steps (from manufacturer):

  1. Clear the firearm completely (no magazine, chamber empty).
  2. Separate upper and lower receivers.
  3. Loosen (or remove) the pistol grip screw.
  4. Remove the existing safety selector.
  5. Remove the hammer pin and hammer/spring.
  6. Remove the trigger pin and old trigger assembly.
  7. Drop in the Partisan Disruptor cassette (align pin holes).
  8. Install the included Partisan 3-position safety (use a small tool to depress the detent if needed — their safety is required).
  9. Re-tighten the pistol grip.
  10. Install anti-walk/anti-rotation pins (recommended) with thread locker.
  11. Reassemble upper and lower (pull charging handle slightly to clear the out-of-battery sear if needed).
  12. Function test thoroughly (dry fire in all modes, then live fire with proper BCG/buffer).

Tips:

  • Anti-walk pins are strongly recommended.
  • Use the manufacturer’s video or troubleshooting guide for visuals.
  • Test in both Semi and Enhanced modes.

Safety & Recommendations: This is a performance firearm modification. Improper installation or use can cause malfunctions. Test incrementally, maintain cleanliness, and follow all safety rules. Consult a qualified gunsmith if your lower is non-standard (billet, 9mm, etc.).

Compared to a Super Safety (which modifies the selector and works with a standard trigger), the Partisan Disruptor replaces the entire trigger group for a more integrated feel in many users’ opinions.
